Footpaths cleared

CHENNAI: The Corporation has launched a drive to clear footpaths of obstructions such as billboard scaffoldings, name boards and flag posts.

About 400 such obstructions were removed on Monday and Tuesday. The Corporation has urged shops and political parties that have put up the boards or flags to remove them before August 15, failing which the civic body would clear them itself.

However, the move has not gone down well with some parties. A CPI (M) release said the move was welcome but flags did not block movement of road -users.
