BANGALORE: Police resorted to mild lathi-charge to disperse a group of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists on Tuesday when they forcibly attempted to gain entry into the Kendriya Sadan seeking classical language status to Kannada. As a group of about 50 protesters belonging to T.A. Narayana Gowda faction came marching to the sadan around 8 a.m., the police stood guard at the Kendriya Sadan in Koramangala, a complex where many Central Government offices are situated. All of a sudden, the protesters, brandishing chains, tried to force their way into the building, and the police caned the protesters. They were later taken away in several waiting vans. A case has been registered against the protesters for disturbing peace. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
