MYSORE: Tight security will be in place for the Independence Day celebrations at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium here on August 15.

Addressing presspersons after inspecting a rehearsal of the Independence Day parade, Police Commissioner Parashivamurthy said that security had been tightened at the venue of celebrations in the wake of blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad last month. Dr. Parashivamurthy said entry into the stadium would be restricted to three entrances where metal detectors would be installed. “Of the three entrances, door frame metal detectors will be installed at two entrances, while the third entrance for VIPs will be manned by police personnel equipped with hand-held metal detectors,” the Police Commissioner said.

Five assistant commissioners of police, 12 inspectors, 24 sub-inspectors, 43 assistant sub-inspectors, 260 head constables, besides women police personnel would be deployed at the venue.

In addition, eight units of City Armed Reserve and two units of Karnataka State Reserve Police Force would be deployed.

People could participate in the Independence Day celebrations at the stadium without any fear.

“People should come to the celebrations in large numbers. We will ensure that tight security arrangements are in place,” he said. Steps had been taken to strengthen security at various places of tourist interest in the city such as the zoo and palace, besides bus stands, railway stations and courts. “Sufficient police personnel will be deployed at these places,” he said.
