Couple run over by crane

BANGALORE: A 35-year-old sales manager and his wife were killed when they were run over by a crane on Kalyananagar Main Road near Banaswadi on Wednesday.

The police said that Anand, a sales manager in a biscuit company, was riding his scooter with his wife Jyothi (30) on pillion.

He was on his way to drop her at a call centre in Babusabpalya where she was working, and thence to his office on Mysore Road, the police said.

A crane moving by the side of the scooter hit the scooter and even as Anand and Jyothi fell off it, they were run over by the crane, killing them instantaneously.

The driver of the crane fled the spot.

The couple is survived by two children, Rakshit (6) and Rithun (3).

The Banaswadi traffic police have registered a case of negligence against the Sudhir Cranes company on Old Madras Road.

Fuel leak

Panic gripped residents of Oonahalli near Devanahalli on Wednesday when aviation fuel leaked from a tanker which overturned.

The residents called the Fire and Emergency Services personnel, who transferred the remaining fuel to another vehicle.

House burgled

The house of a software engineer was burgled in BTM Layout 2nd Stage on Tuesday night. The police said that Amul Gandhi returned from his work to find his home ransacked and cash and gold ornaments estimated at Rs. 20,000 taken away.

The Mico Layout police have registered a case.
