BCs reservation: Moily urged to call for meet

NEW DELHI: Congress Rajya Sabha member from the State V. Hanumantha Rao has urged Mr. M. Veerappa Moily, in-charge of Congress affairs in Andhra Pradesh, to convene a meeting of senior Congress leaders in the State to discuss the latest State cabinet’s decision on providing 33 per cent reservation for BCs in the Legislative Assembly and Council.

Mr. Rao, who met Mr. Moily here on Thursday, told him that the meeting could be held in Hyderabad with the participation of A.P. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, APCC president D. Srinivas and other seniors to discuss the issue as three, four districts in the State like Nellore and Nalgonda had no representation of BCs in the Assembly.

Mr. Rao even wanted the reservation to be implemented in the party and district-wise.

Later he told The Hindu that the subject was very important in view of so many developments (launch of political party by actor Chiranjeevi, who belongs to BC) and also that BCs constitute over 50 per cent of State’s population.

Even the TDP had announced that it would give 100 seats to the BCs and other weaker sections in the Assembly election.
