Sridhar at the 9th convocation of Gitam Institute of International Business in Visakhapatnam on Saturday. — VISAKHAPATNAM: Globalisation has brought about a world of opportunities for young graduates. The right skills and attitude could provide rewarding careers to them across the globe, Executive Director of Export-Import Bank of India, Mumbai, S.R. Rao has said. Participating as chief guest at the Ninth Convocation of GITAM Institute of International Business (GIIB) of GITAM University on Saturday, he gave tips to the graduating students for success in the changed scenario of globalisation. Reeling out statistics, he said that India’s merchandise trade turnover has increased from US $ 114 billion in 2003 to US $ 391 billion in 2008, exports increased from US $ 53 billion to US $ 156 billion and imports were up from US $ 61 billion to US $ 236 billion during the same period. ‘Fix goals’The EXIM Bank Executive Director called upon the students to remember that ‘lifelong learning’ was the key to a successful career. Acquisition of new skills, knowledge and attitude was all the more important in the changed economic scenario. He also stressed on the importance of fixing a goal, ethics and corporate social responsibility. Delivering the Convocation address, Director, Yahoo Systems Sciences Research and Academic Relations, Bengaluru, Chandra M.R. Kintala called upon the students to dream big in life and work towards achieving it. He said students were lucky to be graduating at a time when there were ample opportunities in the changed economic scenario. CEO of Xinthe Techologies, Visakhapatnam, Sridhar Panuganti attributed the giant strides of progress made by India in various spheres to the advancements in the field of education. A literate, educated and skilled population was the most important resource of the nation, he added. GITAM University President MVVS Murthy presided. HonourGIIB Honorary Fellowship was conferred on Mr. P. Sridhar, CEO of Xinthe for his contribution to the development of software industry in Visakhapatnam. GIIB Director V.K. Kumar presented a report on the institute. Nimya Wilson bagged the GITAM President’s gold medal. Sandip Basu and Meena Kumari Pandey bagged the silver and bronze medal respectively.
