Colour TV sets distributed

Chennai: Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways T.R. Baalu on Saturday distributed colour television sets to beneficiaries in Mylapore and Saidapet constituencies.

Mr.Baalu said 14,467 sets had already been distributed in Saidapet constituency under the State government’s scheme and 5,150 sets would be given as part of the third phase of the distribution. Similarly, 16,767 TV sets had been distributed in Mylapore and 3,600 would be given in the third phase.

Mayor M. Subramanian said all children born at Corporation maternity hospitals would be given a gift pack consisting of a towel, a soap bar, talcum powder and a set of clothes. The scheme would be launched by Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin on September 7. The Saidapet abattoir, built at the cost of Rs. 40 lakh, would be inaugurated on September 6.
