KOLKATA: Veteran Marxist leader Jyoti Basu said here on Sunday that Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee should be open to a “compromise” and “cooperate” with the authorities so that the Tata Motors’ automobile project at Singur could come up without any hindrance. Ms. Banerjee had threatened to launch an indefinite stir from August 24 outside the project site till the 400 acres of land, which she alleged was forcibly acquired for the project (of a total of 997 acres acquired), is returned to the farmers. “She should go for a compromise,” Mr. Basu said when asked by journalists for his comment on her stir call. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
