NEW DELHI: A 45-year-old travel agent has been arrested on charges of offering bribe to a police team at Greater Kailash Part-II here on Saturday.

Wariam Singh allegedly offered Rs.7 lakh to the police team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Palam) A.K. Singh during a raid at his residence on Saturday. The raid had been mounted in connection with the arrest of four members of an Afghan family at IGI Airport on Friday for allegedly travelling on fake Indian passports.

Fake passports

“Mahenderjeet Khurana along with his wife Avinash Khurana and their son and daughter were arrested by the immigration officials when they were trying to fly to Prague on fake Indian passports. The accused had been staying in India as Afghan refugees for the past several years. During interrogation, the accused revealed that the passports were procured from Bangalore and arranged by Wariam Singh.

When a raid was mounted at his residence he offered bribe. The police team contacted the area ACP and the accused was arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act,” said a senior police officer.

Wariam operated by word of mouth and has sent almost 50 people abroad on fake documents.
