Even after spending huge money to renovate the railway station, there are many problems on the platforms. A few days back, when I was waiting on platform No.6 for a train, there was sudden rain. I found to my dismay that the roof of the platform was leaking. Commuters waiting on the platform had a hard time trying to find shelter from the rain. The same was the problem on platform No.7 . I request the railway officials to look into the problem and take immediate steps to resolve the problem . V. Ezra, A.S. Nagar Parking lots, please! The number of cars and motorcycles has been increasing in the city day by day. Unfortunately, there is no proportionate increase in facilities like widened roads and parking lots. Particularly, parking problem is present at every junction. Many shopping complexes do not have designated parking lots, thus forcing people visiting the complexes to park their vehicles on the road. As a result, a major part of the roads is being occupied by vehicles, which is resulting in traffic jams. The root-cause of all these problems is non-availability of required parking lots. I request the officials concerned to identify the vacant sites located near important centres and convert them into parking lots. G.V. Rajendra, Gandhi Nagar Roads in a bad shapeRe-laying of roads is one of the long-pending issues in the city. Though the main roads are being re-laid now and then, the internal roads are in a very bad shape. Many roads have not been re-laid even once. People residing in colonies are facing several problems during rainy season, as the roads turn into canals. Despite several requests, there is no response from the local corporators. It would be welcome if the civic authorities spend some of the funds earmarked for providing basic facilities to the public on repairing the inner roads. M. Venkata Rao, Labbipet Monitor bus timingsCity buses operated by the APSRTC are not following the timetable released by the corporation. Particularly, people residing on the city outskirts are facing many problems due to non-availability of buses during peak time. Buses do not arrive on time, and once they start arriving, they do so in such quick succession that it hardly benefits the commuter. For the benefit of people going to outskirts from Pandit Nehru Bus Station, the APSRTC is operating buses till midnight. But, one could not get a bus without a long wait after 10 p.m. I request the APSRTC authorities to monitor the timings. Ch. Lavanya, Bhavanipuram Names missing in electoral rollsThe preparation of draft electoral lists as per delimited Assembly constituencies in the city has become a farce, as voters are not able to find their names in the new lists. Many people are not able to know where they should go to check the draft lists. Even those who have been exercising their franchise in a particular polling station for long are shocked to find their names deleted, or the names of only a few members of a family appearing in the new lists. An official manning a voter registration counter in Patamata admitted that the old lists in the now abolished Kankipadu Assembly constituency have been reproduced without any changes and are being displayed as new lists. It is time the authorities corrected the draft lists and produced the final lists without any errors. S.T.K. Parthasarathi, Patamata © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
