Xpress Deliveries makes foray into retail courier

CHENNAI: Xpress Deliveries, a leading corporate courier services company, has launched ‘Speedmail Deliveries’, its retail courier business unit. Initially it will be operating in Chennai with 30 franchisees and subsequently expand its operations in other cities of Tamil Nadu.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, S. Vijayakumar, Director, Speedmail Deliveries, said the company had already made its mark in the corporate sector across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Bangalore and Hyderabad handling major corporate clients including Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communication, Tata Teleservices, ICICI Bank, Citibank and BSNL. The company had about 1,500 delivery staff, 200 bank office staff, 140 branch offices, with a capacity to handle over 20 lakh covers a month. According to R. Muthukumaran, another director, the company would be able to handle one crore covers a month by 2012 from the present 20 lakh numbers.

Speedmail Deliveries would be using barcode scanners and personal digital assistants (PDA) to ensure that the services were on a par with some of the biggest names in the industry, Mr. Muthukumaran said..
