Seniors get chance in DCC revamp

HYDERABAD: Falling back on experience, Congress state party chief D. Srinivas has appointed several seniors as presidents of the District Congress Committees (DCCs) here on Wednesday.

As the party prepares for the crucial elections sometime next year, senior leaders including MLAs and MLCs have been appointed after approval of the list by the party high command.

In all, 21 DCC chiefs have been named leaving out only Hyderabad and Khammam. Similarly, 12 City Congress Committee chiefs were also named. Non-controversial leaders, who command respect and are known to take all the groups within the Congress along, have been named as the district unit chiefs. Due care was taken to accommodate leaders from various communities in the new list.

Prominent among them are MLAs, Penmatsa Sambasiva Raju (Vizianagaram), C. Ramachandra Reddy Adilabad) and D. Sridhar Babu (Karimnagar). Party MLCs include Singam Basavapunnaiah (Guntur), Nethi Vidyasagar (Nalgonda), Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy (Warangal) and Kandula Durgesh (Rajahmundry City).

Other new incumbents are: Killi Krupa Rani (Srikakulam), B. Satya Rao (Visakhapatnam), Zilla Parishad chairman Venugopal (East Godavari), Moshe Raju (West Godavari) Pothula Rama Rao (Prakasam), Suresh (Kadapa) and Nandeswar Goud (Medak).

The City Congress chiefs are: Vijay Kumar (Visakhapatnam), Bora Ram (Kakinada), Pyla Somi Naidu (Vijayawada), Mastan Vali (Guntur), B. Ayyanna (Kadapa), Pratap Reddy (Tirupati), Feroz Begum (Kurnool), A.Bhaskar Reddy (Karimnagar), A.Purshottam Gupta (Nizamabad), Pulla Bhaskar (Warangal) and Chatla Narasimha Rao (Nellore).

There was no change in the DCC presidents of Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar, Ranga Reddy, Warangal, Nellore, Kurnool, Chittoor, Anantapur and Krishna. However, in the reshuffle, four MLAs – B. Satyavati (Srikakulam), Gandi Babji (Visakhapatnam), Suresh Shetkar (Medak), Dronamraju Srinivas (Visakhapatnam City) and Thota Venkata Narasimham (East Godavari) and an MLC G. V. Seshu (Prakasam), were dropped.
