BEIJING: Rajiv Tomar failed to win a point against Steve Mocco of the United States and crashed out in the first round of the men’s freestyle wrestling 120 kg section at the China Agricultural University Gymnasium here on Thursday. The American won 4-0 on technical points and 3-0 in classification. However, the American could not extend the stay of the Indian as he himself lost in the quarterfinals. Hence there was no chance for Tomar to go through the repechage as Sushil had done on Wednesday. As per rules, the two losing semifinalists, along with all the wrestlers who lose to the eventual finalists qualify for the repechage and fight for the two bronze medals in wrestling. Impressive showIt was indeed an impressive performance by the Indian wrestlers to pull off an improbable bronze medal from a squad of three. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
