THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The committee appointed to study the availability of credit in the cooperative sector has said that interest-free loans can be extended for crops other than paddy also, if the Plan funds with the local self-government are deposited in the cooperatives. The committee chaired by president of the Palakkad District Cooperative Bank P.A. Ummer submitted its report to Additional Chief Secretary here on Thursday. The committee felt that low cost funds would be available for primary cooperatives for lending, if the panchayats deposited both Plan and own funds in the cooperatives. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
