CHENNAI: Police on Thursday arrested a real estate promoter on charges of selling a piece of government land.

In his complaint, S. Karunakaran (28) of Tondiarpet said S. Sivasuriyan (40) of Tiruvottriyur had sold him a piece of land that was meant for laying road under a CMDA scheme. The accused had produced fake documents to show the land belonged to one Parvathiammal and that he had obtained power from her. Sivasuriyan was produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody.
