Seven-wicket win for St. Michael’s Academy

CHENNAI: St. Michael’s Academy carved out a seven-wicket win over National Public School on Thursday in the TNCA City Schools u-14 tournament here.

The scores: Gill Adarsh MHSS ‘A’ (Ch-14) 31 in 10 overs (L. Varun four for eight) lost to T.I. MHSS (Ch-53) 32 for no loss in 2.1 overs (Match restricted to 10 overs because of overnight rain); National Public School (Ch-86) 112 for seven in 25 overs (G. Gautam 31, V. Naveen 28) lost to St. Michael’s Academy MHSS (Ch-20) 113 for three in 21 overs (K. Mukund 34).

Pradeep and Gautham will take on Mahesh and Anand Mathija in the final of Madras United Club’s non-medallist snooker tournament, after the two pairs won their semifinal matches on Thursday.

SRM University emerged winners in all three disciplines — hockey, ball badminton and cricket — in the YMCA College of Physical Education’s Buck Memorial sports festival, which concluded on Thursday

In hockey, SRM defeated YMCA 1-0 in the final after accounting for Anna University (4-0), Jamal Md. College (Tiruchi) (3-0) and MCC (9-1) in earlier rounds.

In ball badminton, SRM defeated St. Joseph’s Engineering College 29-18, 29-12 in the final. Earlier, it had defeated YMCA 29-10, 29-11 and Vel’s Srinivasa 29-10, 29-12.

SRM defeated YMCA College of Physical Education by eight wickets in the cricket final. In the semifinal, SRM chalked out a four-wicket over Sathyabama University.

Sivananda Seshadri and U.V. Agni will be the top seeds in the men’s and women’s sections respectively in the Buildcraft Interior Sate-ranking table tennis tournament which begins on Friday at the Nehru Stadium.

The Chennai Football Association will conduct sub-junior boys trials at the Corporation playground, Kannigapuram (near Vyasarpady Railway Station) on Aug. 27 from 6.30 a.m. Players from registered clubs, schools, academies, etc. and below 15 years (born on or after January 1, 1994 are eligible to register their names at the association office at the Nehru Stadium before Aug. 25.

Consistent performance by V. Vijay Anand was the highlight of Kancheepuram DCA’s successful march to the pre-quarterfinal round of the TNCA inter-district under-16 cricket tournament for the P.R. Thevar Trophy at Salem. KDCA won all its four matches.
