Easy for SAI (STC)

HYDERABAD: Sports Authority of India (STC, Secunderabad) recorded a 8-0 win over APSRTC in the ‘A’-1 division hockey league championship here on Thursday.

The winner led 2-0 at the break. G. Prasanna Kumar (2), Arvind, S. Sandeep Raju, T. Thimmaiah, Md. Yawar, M. Sampath Kumar and K. Qadeer Pasha were the scorers for SAI.

In another match, AOC defeated Youth League 4-2 with Ramaswamy netting a brace and S. Horo and Satyanarayana one each, while George Logun and Sham Cariappa reduced the margin.

Cross country meet

The University College of Physical Education, in association with the Osmania University, will organise inter-Collegiate cross country races at the OU grounds on August 24 from 6.30 a.m. for men (12km) and women (6km).

Mumbai in command

At Vijayawada, Mumbai XI posted 400 for seven in 90 overs against Andhra XI in the two-day practice match at Anantapur. Suhail Kukreja was the top-scorer with 98.

The scores: Mumbai 400 for seven in 90 overs (Suhail Kukreja 98, Vinayak Mane 81, Wasim Jaffer 69, Aditya Tara 62, A. Rahane 61, M. Suresh three for 97) vs. Andhra XI.

Flora posts win

Flora Public School defeated Chaitanya Public School by 35 runs in the KDCA inter-schools tournament on Thursday. In reply to Flora’s 82, Chaitanya was all out for 47 in 21.4 overs.

The scores: Flora PS 82 in 30.5 overs (P. Satyanarayana six for 69, P. Chaitanya two for 12) bt Chaitanya PS 47 in 21.4 overs (B. Avinash seven for 16, K. Bhima Rao two for 18).

Big win for WG

West Godavari scored a 96-run victor over Krishna in the ACA women’s under-19 inter-district tournament on Thursday. West Godavari made 162 and in reply Krishna was bundled out for 63 in 25 overs.

The scores: West Godavario 162 in 35.1 overs (A. Aruna 38, S. Sravanth three for 22) bt Krishna 63 in 25 overs (T. J. Sheshavani three for 12, A. Priyanka three for six).

Play washed out

The second day’s play between Prakasam and West Godavari in the ACA Central Zone u-16 inter-district tournament for Valluri Kesava Rao Trophy was washed out due to rain at Guntur.

Vamsi sizzles

At Kakinada, T. Vamsi Krishna hit an unbeaten century (102, 9x4, 1x6) for ACA Secretary’s XI against ACA President’s XI on the first day of the ACA three-day under-22 selection match on Thursday.

The scores: ACA Secretary’s XI 312 for nine in 90 overs (T. Vamsi Krishna 102 n.o., G. Chinna Rao 44, M.S. Deepak Kumar 40, Sk.M. Basha four for 71) vs. ACA President’s XI.

Kurnool posts win

At Gudivada, Kurnool scored a thrilling 30-27 win over Medak in a Pool ‘F’ match in the boys’ section of the State youth basketball tournament on Thursday. With 30 seconds to go for the final whistle, Kurnool, trailing 26-27, saw Mushtaq and Shanshah scoring the all-important points, paving way for their team’s victory.

In Pool ‘A’, Srikakulam defeated Kadapa 30-17, while Hyderabad outplayed Ranga Reddy 43-2 in a Pool ‘F’ encounter.

The results: League: Boys: Chittoor 18 bt Karimnagar 7, Hyderabad 43 bt Ranga Reddy 2, Kurnool 30 bt Medak 27, Srikakulam 30 bt Kadapa 17, Warangal 28 bt Guntur 10.

Girls: Krishna 28 bt Chittoor 13.

Shiva scalps five

At Vizianagaram, K. Shiva Kumar’s five-wicket propelled Visakhapatnam to an easy seven-wicket win over East Godavari in the ACA North Zone inter-district under-16 tournament on Thursday. With this win, Visakhapatnam finished with an all-win record in the round-robin tournament and assured itself of the G.S.S. Ramachandra Raju Trophy.

The scores: East Godavari 94 in 46 overs (Eswar 32, Harish Kumar 25, K. Shiva Kumar five for 19) lost to Visakhapatnam 95 for three ion 24.5 overs (M. Praneeth 45 n.o.)

Hockey trials

At Visakhapatnam, the District Hockey Association will conduct trails at the DLB Salagrampuram hockey ground from 3 p.m. on Saturday to select the district senior men’s team. The selected team will participate in the 25th State inter-district championship at Gudur from August 28 to September 2.
