Pulse polio tomorrow

Staff Reporter

Kakinada: The Medical and Health Department has made arrangements for the four-day mop-up round of pulse polio immunisation from August 24 to prevent children in 0-5 age group from becoming victims of the crippling disease.

A total of 5,72,472 children will be administered polio vaccine by 12,000 health workers and volunteers, according to Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi.

He stated in a preparatory meeting that the focus would be on slum areas, fishermen habitations and places where migrant workers assemble for construction activity as most vulnerable children would be found at such places.

VIZIANAGARAM: Some 2.64 lakh children in the age group of 0-5 years would be covered in the district on Sunday, said District Medical and Health Officer Ch. Mahesh.

At a press conference here on Friday, Dr. Mahesh said the mop-up round was planned following detection of a polio case in East Godavari district recently. Some 3.40 lakh doses of vaccine were received. The services of officials, NGOs, ANMs, anganwadis and others would be utilised on that day at the 1,500 booths opened for immunisation.
