DAVANGERE: Y.C. Vishwanath, neurologist, has called upon the Education Department not to stress children with a difficult syllabus. Speaking at a seminar on “Increasing incidence of children committing suicide” here on Friday, Dr. Vishwanath said children would be affected by stress if learning became hectic and monotonous. The stress brought about by merciless competition and children’s inability to cope with failure had led many of them to commit suicide. Frequent changes in the examination system also affected them, he said and called upon educationists and policymakers to take well-thought-out decisions in this regard. He also urged parents not to belittle their children for not scoring high marks. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
