Karunanidhi’s gesture

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Friday announced that the State government would provide the 5 per cent contribution on behalf of physically challenged persons to enable them to get loans under Prime Minister’s Rozgar Yojana (PMRY) for self-employment.

The announcement followed the Chief Minister’s meeting with the representatives of the physically challenged persons on August 19.

A State government press release stated that the Chief Minister had ordered the setting up industrial training centres with hostels through NGOs to improve employable skills of physically challenged persons. The government will fund the project and all the districts will have these centres in three years.

Physically challenged persons would also get the financial assistance that is being given to the visually challenged persons under the scheme for unemployed youth, the release said.
