Lorry carrying matchboxes gutted

VILLUPURAM: A lorry carrying matchboxes was gutted at Ramaiyanpalayam on the Kumbakonam—Chennai Highway on Friday. However, the crew escaped unhurt.

The police said the consignment was on its way from Tuticorin to Assam.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known. Fire service personnel rushed to the spot and with great difficulty doused the flames.

Traffic flow was affected for over four hours on the road.
