Close win for Gomes

Chennai: More than 160 qualifying matches were held in the boys’ singles under-18 and 14 categories of the adidas-MCC junior National tennis championship, conducted by the MCC, here on Saturday.

Delhi’s Marcos Gomes registered a close 9-8(6) win over Tamil Nadu’s Raj Vishnu, as did Karnataka’s Pranav Teja over Rohan Bhatia of Maharashtra in the boys’ under-18 second qualifying round.

The girls’ under-18 and 14 singles qualifying rounds will commence on Sunday.
