Chennai: Top seed Shyam P. Nikhil of SRM Nightingale School (Chennai) drew the final round by repetition of moves to win the first Modern School FIDE-rating chess tournament, which concluded here on Saturday. Victories by both S. Nitin of Salem and Tejas Ravichandran of Chennai saw a three-way tie for the first place along with Shyam on 8.5. They shared the prize money and took home Rs.18,330 each but the trophy went to Shyam on the basis of his higher progressive score. In the final round, Shyam drew with white pieces in 34 moves against Ramnath Bhuvanesh. Dinesh Nayak, former Olympian and Indian hockey player gave away the trophy and prizes. Important results (10th and final round): Shyam P. Nikhil drew with Ramnath Bhuvanesh; S. Nitin bt Pon N. Krithikha; Navalgund Niranjan lost to Tejas Ravichandran; Krishna Prasad lost to Pradeep Kumar; Anwesh Upadhyaya lost to G. Akash; Dusthageer Ibrahim drew with J. Saranya. Final placings (tie-break order): 1-3. Shyam, Nitin, Tejas 8.5 each; 4-6. D.S. Shashaank, Pradeep, Akash 8 each; 7-11. Ramnath, Saranya, Ch. Divyasri, S.S. Manigandan, J.S.
