Concerted effort to check polio stressed

Kakinada: Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi inaugurated a four-day mop-up round of pulse polio immunisation at programme at the urban health centre at Yetimoga on Sunday by administering polio vaccine to a child.

Mr. Dwivedi called for concerted efforts to eradicate the health hazard and called upon the people to acquaint themselves with causes of the disease and the preventive measures so that children in the 0-5 age group were not afflicted with the crippling ailment.

Kakinada MLA M. Gopalakrishna said the vaccine being supplied was of P-3 type and it was an effective weapon against the disease. He cautioned the people against complacency in taking necessary action to check the disease.

MLC N. Sesha Reddy, Zilla Parishad chairman Ch. Venugopala Krishna, District Medical and Health Officer D. Vijay Kumar and District Immunisation Officer B. Phaneendra were among those present.

VIZIANAGARAM: Lok Sabha member B. Jhansi Lakshmi has said that eradication of polio is a social responsibility of people must involve themselves voluntarily by immunising their children.

She was speaking after administering polio drops to a child at the urban health centre in Lankapatnam in the town on Sunday. She said that the programme was taken up keeping in view the case reported from East Godavari district recently. She said that children living in hilltop hamlets and fishermen villages would also be covered during the three-day programme.

Collector B. Kishore launched the programme at Korlam in Gantyada mandal and said that mobile teams would embark on a door-to-door visit on Monday and Tuesday to administer drops to those left out at booths on the first day. District Medical and Health Officer Ch. Mahesh and others were present.
