Double standards

Tata steel has recently tendered a hidden threat to withdraw from the Singur project. Most of the middle and upper middle class people in India rue about delay of Nano car project and CPI (M), which always finds itself in the front row for championing farmers’ issue, is trying hard to retain the project. But my concern is the interest of farmers has taken a back seat. Upper middle class people are daydreaming of owning a car while CPI (M) in West Bengal sees the development through industrialisation unlike its stance in other States, including in Orissa.

CPI(M) has almost opposed every industrial project in Orissa and built up movement around it. However, it is acting differently in West Bengal. The murky politics being played by Communists, Congress and rightists has disillusioned the country to find a proper way to achieve development.

For political parties, the language of politics differs from State to State and one political party to another. Singur episode has revealed real character of political parties and how they are being dictated by companies from the behind. You won’t be surprised if the same Mamta Banerjee if somehow comes to power in future will surely forget farmers of the Singur and sing to tune of corporate world.

Check media role

India could have done better in the Beijing Olympic if certain regulatory mechanism could have put in place. Under present circumstances, media especially electronic media should not be allowed to come nearer to medal prospects. I thought this was the reason we missed a gold and two other medals. After three boxers generated hopes for medal, the electronic media went mad. The media had done more damage than our lethargic sports administrators. Jitendra Kumar, Akhil Kumar and Vijendra Kumar got distracted after coming under unexpected media limelight. More than 15 electronic media channels had deputed their reporters for the Olympic Games. They had consumed much valuable time as the two boxers did not get time for practice. Before winning medals, the boxers started to think about showering of prize money due to publicity blitzkrieg. Henceforward, the sports administrator should keep in mind that no budding sportsman should be given access to media at no point of time.

Much to learn from China

The China one of the most populous country in the world hosted the 30th Olympic Games in a most spectacular manner and in a big scale which clearly shows the determination of the Chinese people as hosting the Olympic Games is not an ordinary thing ,which Chinese did it once again. China is emerging one of the super powers in the world. The style of functioning, dedication, using the man power without treating it as burden, hard working people make the China a number one in the world.

The second most populous country India is far behind with its counter part and needs a lot of things to learn from them. Though after independence much has been achieved and still many more to achieve and to compete with the other countries. Recently plans and proposals have been initiated to make Mumbai another Shanghai, but very next, rains washed away the dream and poor systems in every aspect show the real face of the city. As the hosting of games like Olympic is a Herculean task and developing country like India cannot afford such huge expenses we can prepare the sportsmen to that extent by which our candidates can bring medals. Kudos to Abhinav Bindra, son of the country who not only won the gold for himself but also made the country proud.
