M. Venkaiah Naidu VISAKHAPATNAM: Senior BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu feels the State is heading towards instability. According to him no political party, especially the Congress, is in a position to get majority in the Assembly on its own. The Congress Government failed in all aspects and the main Opposition had also failed to impress the people, he said, asserting that a united fight by all Opposition parties would have a good chance. InitiativeSpeaking to media persons here on Sunday, he said the BJP was not a major player in Andhra Pradesh and there was no question of his party taking the initiative for Opposition unity. He, however, said the BJP would contest all seats in the state. Congress had been losing ground in the State and even in the last Assembly elections it had joined hands with Left parties, TRS and indirectly got the support of Maoists and won majority. Now it is isolated. Referring to national scene, Mr. Naidu charged the United Progressive Alliance Government with the shying away from Parliament. The UPA Government is afraid of facing Parliament because of the scams like ‘cash for votes’, corruption charges against a number of Ministers, inflation, terrorist problems etc. Because of the bungling by the UPA, the Jammu and Kashmir is in a turmoil. The UPA had no idea of how to wriggle out of the problem. A ‘mirage’Terming the proposed third alternative at the national level a mirage, he said that the fight would be only between two fronts, one headed by the UPA and the other led by the NDA. The BJP is also not in a position to get majority in the Lok Sabha on its own, he admitted, adding that the NDA would come back to power. Mr. Naidu, who is here to participate in a private function, recalled the excellent performance of NDA Government and asserted that it would get the popular mandate again. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
