Head constable run over

Tiruvannamalai: Karunanidhi (45), a highway patrol police head constable, was killed after a car ran over him near Chengam on Saturday night.

Karunanidhi was involved in vehicle checks in front of Chengam fire station on the Bangalore Highway when a speeding car hit him.

He died on the spot.

The car driver lost control of the vehicle after the accident and fell in the Pakkiripalayam irrigation tank.

Villagers caught the driver Gopi (28) of Manmalai, who was in a drunken state, and handed him over to police. — Staff Reporter
