Arvind scores century

Chennai: A fluent century by skipper S. Arvind, who scored 108 runs, helped SSN College of Engineering beat Meenakshi Sundaram College of Engineering by 123 runs in the inter-zone engineering college cricket tournament and advance to the semifinals.

The scores (quarterfinals):

SSN College of Engineering 197 for three in 25 overs (S. Arvind 108, Sriram Sridaran 56) bt Meenakshi Sundarajan College of Engineering 74 in 16.5 overs (Vijaygovind three for seven, Sivasankar three for 17.

Easwari College of Engineering 140 in 24.2 overs bt Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Engineering 79 in 18.2 overs (Vignesh Raja four for nine, Ramaraja three for 12).

Aditya shines

B. Aditya’s all-round effort (40 & four for nine including a hat-trick) helped United CC beat JS Rao CA by 50 runs in the under-14 section of the Little Hearts CA league cricket tournament being held here.

The scores:

U-14: Little Hearts CA 133 for seven in 30 overs (B. Vasanth 32, K. Vigneswar 27) bt AVM CCF 125 for nine in 30 overs (Vinay 43, Prabhakar 33, M. Arunan five for 18).

United 148 for eight in 30 overs (Sachin Yethendran 38, B. Aditya 40) bt JS Rao CA 98 in 27 overs (B. Aditya four for nine including a hat-trick).

Hari Prasad scalps five

Hari Prasad took five wickets as Districts I bowled City I out for 160, to gain a nine-run first innings lead and enter the final of the TNCA under-19 Round Robin tournament here on Monday.

In the final, to be held on August 28 and 29, Districts I will take on Districts II, which took the first innings lead over City III on the second day at RKM-Vivekananda.

The scores:

City III 118 and 142 for four declared in 25.4 overs (A.H.M. Suhail 52, Adithya Ganesh 40, R. Rohith 43 not out, Vivek Athinam three for 40) drew with Districts II 129 in 76.4 overs (Aravindan 41, Aashish Kumar 43 not out, Shravan Krishnan four for 43) and 71 for four in 28 overs. Points: Districts II - 5, City III - 2.

Districts I 169 and 105 for five in 32 overs (R. Vivek 32) drew with City I 160 in 53.1 overs (Bharat Ram 37, Anirudh Kasturi 32, Hari Prasad five for 37, R. Rohit four for 51). Points: Districts I - 5, City I - 2.

St. John’s takes title

Geeth Puri’s unbeaten 70 was instrumental in St. John’s (Besant Nagar) scripting an eight-wicket win over St. Patrick’s in the final of the South Madras Cricket Association under-14 schools tournament held here recently.

The scores (final): St. Patrick’s 132 for eight in 30 overs (R. Arnold 51, Mario Paul 27, Rohit Karan three for 19) lost to St. John’s (Besant Nagar) 133 for two in 27.3 overs Geeth Puri 70 not out, Viswanath 38).
