120 delegates and 50 students will attend the meet Manipal: The 18th annual conference of the Karnataka Branch of Indian Psychiatric Society titled “KANCIPS – 2008” would be held here on August 30 and 31. Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, organising secretary of the conference Shripathy M. Bhat and joint secretary P.S.V.N. Sharma said that the conference was being organised by the Department of Psychiatry, Kasturba Medical College (KMC), the Manipal University and others. As many as 120 delegates from different parts of the State and 50 post-graduate students (trainee psychiatrists) would be attending the conference. The conference would provide an opportunity to share academic information. Renowned and senior psychiatrists from other States would be participating in the conference as resource persons in scientific deliberations. Many awards would be given during the conference. Associate Chair of Population Mental Health, School of Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences, the University of Western Australia, Perth, Mohan Isaac, would be presented with the “Eminent Psychiatrist Award”. Consultant psychiatrist Ajith Bhide from Bangalore will be given the “Dr. L.G.P. Achar Award”. Consultant psychiatrist B.R. Ravi Shanker Rao from Bangalore would be given the “S.S. Jayaraman Award” for “authoring articles about mental health issues in the print media”.
