Bangalore: Ganga International School, Nelagadaranahalli, held its investiture ceremony recently. Founder president of the institution N. Ganganarasaiah administered the oath and pinned the badges on the new leaders. School leader Maneesha Singh took a pledge on behalf of the other members to keep the school flag flying high and to discharge their duties and responsibilities with conviction. The captains of Neethi, Nyaya, Sathya and Dharma houses also took the pledge. Raksha BandhanThe students of Rashtrotthana Vidya Kendra, Thanisandra, celebrated Raksha Bandhan recently. The festival celebrates the relationship between a brother and a sister. Faculty member Kalpana speaking on the significance of the festival said that this day was observed as “Samskruth Divas” in the past. She said that the origin of this day dates back to the time of Bahadur Shah, who wished to conquer Chittor. When Queen Karnavathi of Chittor came to know about this she sent a message and a rakhi to the Mughal emperor Humayun seeking protection. He obliged her wishes and since then this day has been observed as Raksha Bandhan, Ms. Kalpana said. Students and teachers later visited five neighbouring schools and tied rakhis to one another. Independence Day celebrationsDelhi Public School, Bangalore North, celebrated Independence Day with great show and pomp. Balaveera Reddy, the former Vice-Chancellor of Vishwesharaiah Technological University unfurled the national flag and received the salute. He said that in today’s world computers played an important role in education. He said that the India was the first country to have an educational satellite that is used for disseminating knowledge. All Indians should be proud of this achievement, Mr. Reddy said. Principal Sneh Preet Sial stressed the importance of putting the country before oneself. She said, “India is a shining example of a vibrant democracy today.” Keeping with the tradition of eco-friendliness at the school, a sapling plantation programme was held to reaffirm the school’s pledge to keep the planet green. The cultural programme was the highlight of the celebration. High school students presented a dance on “women empowerment”. There was a flute recital by Veena Kamath and a violin recital by Vijayendra. Students of Anubhava Shiksha Kendra, a school for the underprivileged, also presented a dance.
