College authorities hold talks with District Collector District authorities to ensure smooth functioning MALAPPURAM: Classes at NSS College, Manjeri, will resume on Thursday with police protection. The district authorities have given the college an assurance that no student would be allowed to picket the college office or disrupt classes from Thursday. The functioning of the college was disrupted and classes suspended following a siege by the Students Federation of India (SFI) since Monday in protest against the refusal of college authorities to hold elections in presidential mode. After two days of agitation, the college office opened on Wednesday after the police removed the protesting students. The college authorities led by Principal N. Girija met District Collector M.C. Mohandas and the district police chief on Wednesday to seek their help for the smooth conduct of classes. Dr. Girija said classes would resume on Thursday on the basis of the assurance given by the district authorities. The SFI leaders said they would continue the agitation demanding elections. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
