Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Left parties on Wednesday expressed its disapproval over the decision of the Union government to call Parliament session from October 17 to November 20, instead of holding the monsoon session during August.

Stating that the monsoon session of Parliament should have been convened on August 11, the Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) said that instead, the government was convening it during October-November.

“This means that there will not be any winter session either. The UPA government is, thus abdicating its accountability to Parliament especially when serious developments like the disturbances in the State of Jammu & Kashmir and Orissa are taking place,” the party said in its statement.

Gurudas Dasgupta, leader of the CPI in Parliament, urged President Pratibha Patil to advise the Manmohan Singh government to convene the monsoon session of Parliament immediately.
