WINNERS ALL: The victorious Kancheepuram cricket team with the trophy.

TIRUCHI: Kancheepuram pulled off an exciting two-run win over Tiruvallur to clinch the T.V. Ramasubbaiyer Trophy in the Tiruchi DCA Golden Jubilee inter-District Twenty20 cricket tournament here on Tuesday.

Electing to field, Tiruvallur had Kancheepuram tottering at 85 for seven at the end of 15 overs. But the 31-run eighth wicket stand between S. Senthil Kumar and K. Sukumar proved vital. Kancheepuram batsmen managed to score 31 runs in the last two overs to steer their team to a respectable total.

Good stand

Needing 132 to win, Tiruvallur made a shaky start losing its opener Ashwin with just three runs on the board. But Thalaivan Sargunam and Shijit Chandran steadied the ship with a 65-run second wicket partnership.

Just when the going looked good for Tiruvallur, Shijit’s dismissal led to a momentum shift.
