Bangalore: C.S. Sunder Raju, Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association secretary, has clarified that the association had nothing to do with the cancellation of the ATP Bangalore Open that was initially scheduled for a September 8 start. In a press release, Mr. Sunder said that reports in a section of the media that claimed that the KSLTA had petitioned to the ATP to cancel the event owing to security concerns were false. “The KSLTA wishes to clarify that it was not involved in the organisation or cancellation of the ATP Bangalore Open. The event was owned and was to be executed by BIG LIVE, a part of Adlabs Films Ltd. which is an Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group company. “KSLTA was only approached to provide the Kingfisher Signature Tennis Stadium as a venue which was agreed to,” said Mr. Sunder in the press release. Meanwhile, highly placed sources in BIG LIVE admitted that the company had sought the shelving of the tournament for the time being owing to heightened security perceptions in the region. The sources, however, reiterated that the company hopes to conduct the event at the same venue next year.
