Ernakulam in last four

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Defending champion Ernakulam, Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram moved into the boys semifinals in inter-District team event of the State junior badminton championships at the Sri Moolam club here on Wednesday.

The results (quarterfinals):

Boys: Ernakulam bt Idukki 2-0 (Dilshad bt Jayadeep 21-16, 21-12; Renjith & Ravi Shankar bt Jayadeep & Chikoo Sunny 11-21, 21-12, 21-9).

Thrissur bt Malappuram 2-0 (Renjith bt Sahhim 21-10, 21-12; Mithun Haridas & Sunjith bt Shahm & Mohd. Sharukh 21-6, 21-7).

Thiruvananthapuram bt Kollam 2-0 (H.S.Pranoy bt Giri Mohan 21-8, 21-13; Pranoy & Govind Sivan bt Antony Gibin George & Giri Mohan 21-11, 21-9).

Girls: Thiruvananthapuram bt Kollam 2-0 (Nanditha Krishnan bt Shafiah Shersha 21-6, 21-5; Neethu Ninan & Nanditha bt Athira Mohan & Mejo Martin 21-5, 21-3).

Kozhikode bt Kannur 2-0 (M.H.Haritha bt M.Aswathi 19-21, 21-10, 21-13; Anusha & Keerthana P.Nair bt Aswathi & Priya 21-19, 21-10).

Kids CC in final

Cycle Brand Kids CC crushed Masters CC by 183 runs and entered the final of the Canara Bank-TDCA ‘A’ division cricket league here on Wednesday.

Kids CC, which finished its league engagements with 107 points, will take on State Bank of Travancore ‘A’ in the final.

The scores: Cycle Brand Kid CC 307 for six in 45 overs (Santu Jose 86 n.o., Akhil Viswanath 78, V.V. Kannan 44) bt Masters CC 124 in 29.5 overs (R. Aravind four for 26).

Surjit, Sajith shine

Off-spinner Surjith took five wickets for 18 runs as Palakkad bowled out Thrissur for 149 and gained a one-run first innings lead in the Central Zone under-22 inter-district cricket championship at the St. Paul’s College Ground, Kalamassery, on Wednesday.

Palakkad’s innings earlier was built around a colourful 75 from Sajith which was studded with 13 fours and a six.

The two-dayer was scheduled to begin only on Thursday but was advanced by a day.

The scores:

Palakkad 150 in 40.3 overs (Sajith 75 retd hurt, Ramesh 37, Vysakh three for 37, Anthaf three for 20) & 6 for one in 3 overs v Thrissur 149 in 34.1 overs (Uvais 37, Surjith five for 18).
