Hold talks for peace: Brinda

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat on Wednesday appreciated the government’s move to initiate a dialogue with the people of Jammu to end the Amarnath land row and appealed for negotiations in the Kashmir Valley also.

Speaking at a National Convention of Muslim Women, organised by the All India Democratic Women’s Association here on Wednesday, Ms. Karat said the government should realise the “pain of the women in Kashmir” due to days of curfew.

The government should start political negotiations with the people of Kashmir to bring peace instead of leaving it to the Army and the paramilitary forces to deal with the situation.

Ms. Karat said the freedom struggle was fought together by women, irrespective of their religion but the policies now being followed by the government were divisive that were aimed at securing votes.
