Army Red spikers down VVR Club

HYDERABAD: Army Red scored a 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 25-19 win over VVR Club in the A-Division volleyball league championship for Nalla Malla Reddy Engineering College Trophy at Amberpet Indoor Stadium here on Wednesday.

Pavan wins title

S. Pavan Kumar defeated S. Ramesh 25-18, 25-18 in the final of the non-medallists category of the second Young Men’s Improvement Society State-ranking carrom tournament at YMIS here.

Ramachandran shines

S. Ramachandran of MRC was adjudged ‘best athlete’ in the ATNK & K Area athletics meet held at Sarvatra Stadium in Artillery Centre (Golconda) here. He won the 800 m, 1500m and the 3000m steeplechase events

Artillery Training Centre (Hyderabad) won the overall championship trophy.

Chess selections

Andhra Pradesh Chess Association will organise State championship-cum-selections for National ‘B’ from August 29 to 31 at Indira Bhavan in Nellore. Selected players will represent the State in the Nationals to be held in Goa from September 15 to 23.

Flytech Invaders recorded a 29-run win over Invincible XI in the Flytech Aviator’s T-20 cricket tournament here.

District athletics

Hyderabad District Athletic Association will organise District athletic meet for boys and girls (under-16 and 14 years) at Osmania University on August 29.

Performances here will be the criterion to pick the District team for the National inter-district meet to be held in Haridwar in October this year.

Basketball tournament

Twenty-two teams will take part in the St. Bartolomea Capitanio and St. Vincenza Gerosa inter-school girls basketball tournament at Holy Family School from August 28.

Defending champion St. Pious (Ramnagar) and hosts Holy Family will be the strong contenders again in the event to be played on knock-out format.

Ms. Balwinder Kaur, international player from SCR, will inaugurate.

STC boxers impress

Boxers from the Sports Authority of India (STC, Saroornagar) put up a creditable performance winning two gold, two silver and two bronze in the Senior inter-District championship held in Vizag, according to K. Prabhakar, Administrator of the STC.

The medallists who were coached by Vijay Pratap Singh are: Gold: K. Santosh (Fly), G. Satish Kumar (Light); Silver: V. Santosh (Lt. welter) and K. Raghuveer (Lt. fly); Bronze: Md. Mazharuddin (Bantam) & P. Ishaq (Lt Heavy).

Kaushik’s team wins

Kaushik’s team won the team-of-four duplicate event beating C.V. Rao’s team in the final of Andhra University Faculty Club bridge tournament. Neogi’s team won the progressive team-of-four event with Kaushik’s team as runner-up. Biharilal and P. Sudhakar claimed the masters pair event.
