Congress ready to consider autonomy

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Wednesday said the United Progressive Alliance was always prepared to consider autonomy and different models of decentralised self-governance but ruled out holding dialogue with those either who were terrorists or owe allegiance to forces inimical to India.

Referring to developments in Jammu and Kashmir, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said the Congress-led political formation was open for all constructive engagement with those who want to discuss alternative models of self-governance.

“We are open for all constructive elements to engage in constructive exchanges. The doors are always open but equally no question of encouraging or dealing with those who are either terrorists or owe allegiance to forces inimical to the country.

He said those who were seeking more autonomy were on a different plane as opposed to those who want secession.
