NEW DELHI: Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora on Thursday met Russian President Dmitri Medvedev at Dushanbe and sought his cooperation and support for making the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Videsh’s (OVL) acquisition of U.K.-based Imperial Energy a success. Mr. Deora, who is in Dushanbe to attend the 8th Shanghai Corporation Organisation (SCO) summit, met Mr. Medvedev on the sidelines of the summit and urged him to support India’s cause to making the deal complete. Official sources said that Mr. Deora also took up the matter of partnership of OVL with a Russian company with Mr. Medvedev and urged him to make the entire transition smooth. “I am very happy with the meeting and confident that our Russian friends will help us overcome all situations in this deal,” Mr. Deora remarked after the meeting. Earlier, speaking at the summit, Mr. Deora called for constructive partnership among the energy producing and consuming nations to find viable solutions to energy security issues. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
