MADURAI: First fold warning was issued for people living along the banks of river Vaigai in five districts of Theni, Dindigul, Madurai, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram. The warning was issued after the level in the Vaigai dam reached 66 feet at 7 p.m. on Thursday. The flow in the reservoir in the morning was 2,111 cusecs. Though no water was released from the dam, Vaigai river has good flow since Tuesday with its catchment areas downstream the dam experiencing showers every day. The flow in the river was 2,864 cusecs, as recorded at Viraghanoor dam. The level in the Periyar dam was 126.60 feet (full level 136 feet) with an inflow of 1,434 cusecs and a discharge of 1,424 cusecs. The combined Periyar credit stood at 5,248 mcft. Rainfall recorded in various placesMadurai recorded 95.4 mm of rainfall followed by Mettupatti 39 mm, Andipatti 38 mm, Kallandiri 31.3 mm, Periyar dam 26 mm, Sothuparai dam 25 mm, Uthamapalayam and Vaigai dam 24 mm each, Veerapandi 23 mm, Kallandiri 18.4 mm, Peranai 18.2 mm, Tekkadi 17 mm, Sattiyar dam 10.5 mm, Manjalar dam 10 mm, Gudalur and Shanmuganadi 5 mm each, Marudhanadi 4 mm, Pulipatti 3 mm, Sittampatti 2 andMelur 1mm. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
