Income Tax in quarterfinals

HYDERABAD: Income Tax fought back gallantly to down a fighting Sports Authority of India (STC, Vizag) 27-29, 25-27, 25-20, 25-15, 15-9 to enter the quarterfinals of the A-Division volleyball league championship for the Nalla Malla Reddy Engineering College Trophy at Amberpet Indoor Stadium here on Thursday.

In another match, State Bank of India, powered by a fine display by veterans V. Srikanth Reddy and Vijay Chand, scored a hard-fought 25-10, 21-25, 25-20, 25-19 win over APSRTC.

Holy Family moves up

Host and last year’s runner-up, Holy Family High School entered the quarterfinals of the second inter-school basketball tournament for girls with a 23-4 win over Don Bosco HS.

In other matches, St. Andrew’s HS recorded a 24-5 win over St. Joseph’s HS, Malakpet while St. Joseph’s, Habsiguda, got the better of St. Francis HS, Secunderabad 20-3 to make it to the last eight stage.

The Andhra Pradesh teams to take part in the 35th junior National aquatics championship to be held in Amritsar this weekend were announced here.

Condolence meeting

State under-17 chess

The Andhra Pradesh State under-17 chess championship for boys and girls will be organised from September 5 to 7 at Hayathnagar.
