PETA to rope in Sushil Kumar for pro-veg. campaign

Bindu Shajan Perappadan

NEW DELHI: Olympic bronze medal winner Sushil Kumar may not have huge endorsements or advertising campaigns in his kitty yet but the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India is hoping that the star would join hands with them to promote vegetarianism.

PETA has written to the Beijing Olympic medal winner, who is a vegetarian, to feature in its new advertisement. “We are showing India’s young people that scores of today’s best-known and most loved personalities are vegetarians, and many are again embracing vegetarianism,” says PETA chief functionary Anuradha Sawhney.

PETA letter

The PETA letter reads: “Our campaigns are known for featuring attention-grabbing images, and the muscularity you displayed in winning your victory would certainly attract attention – and make it clear that a vegetarian diet can lead to a body built for Olympian feats. Your well-honed physique could also help young (and not-so-young) men understand that when it is time for a real workout, they should avoid meat if they want to achieve maximum performance. Our vegetarianism campaign is one of our most prominent efforts.”
