NEW DELHI: Seventeen policemen were injured when a group of protestors demanding reservation for Dalit Muslims turned violent and hurled stones at them near Jantar Mantar here. The police have arrested over 40 of them. According to the police, the incident took place around 2-30 p.m. when the protestors led by Ejaz Ali, Rajya Sabha member from Bihar, suddenly turned violent. The police resorted to a mild use of force to disperse the mob. Among the injured was the Assistant Commissioner of Police of the Parliament Street sub-division. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
