Kolkata: Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has “accepted” the view of the leadership of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on the right to strike by the working class and “the chapter is closed,” two senior leaders of the party said here on Friday. ‘Chapter closed’Biman Bose, secretary of the party’s West Bengal committee, who had contended that what the Chief Minister had said on bandhs earlier this week was not the party’s view, said that the latter had “accepted” the party’s stand as clarified by its Polit Bureau on Thursday. “The chapter is closed.” “The Polit Bureau, in its statement, has made a pubic censure and the Chief Minister has accepted it,” Shyamal Chakravarty, president of the State unit of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions, said. The Polit Bureau statement asserted that the party firmly stood for the right to strike by the working class as a fundamental right. The clarification came in the context of remarks made by Mr. Bhattacharjee on bandhs. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
