Bishop Cotton, Vidyashilp triumph

BANGALORE: Bishop Cotton boys and Vidyashilp Academy girls claimed the basketball and football titles respectively in the Mallya Aditi International School (MAIS) conducted inter-school sports fest that concluded on Friday. The host won two titles.

The results (finals):

Basketball: Boys: Bishop Cottons 41 (Adeep 18, Joshua 14) bt MAIS 20.

Girls: MAIS 35 (Iravati Guha 9, Nupur 8) bt Bishop Cottons 24 (Neha 10).

Football: Boys: MAIS bt Bishop Cottons 1-0.

Girls: Vidyashilp Academy bt Bethany 5-4.

Laxman at NCA

V.V.S. Laxman attended a routine fitness assessment session at the National Cricket Academy on Friday. Laxman, who suffered an ankle injury during the Sri Lanka Test tour, returned to Hyderabad later in the day.

Road races

More than 2000 runners from nearly 100 schools will take part in the 13th KPMG Independence Day road races, conducted by Bangalore Sports Club, on Sunday, August 31.

Held exclusively for city schools, the races will be conducted in three age categories: under-11 (one km), under-14 (2 km) and under-16 (4 kms).

Top ten finishers in each section will be given attractive cash prizes and certificates. Spot entries too will be accepted till 7.30 a.m on the day of the race.

MEG posts win

MEG & Centre overcame a major hurdle in the form of ITI Sports Club rather easily at 25-14, 25-18, 25-18 for its third win in the State ‘A’ division volleyball league championship at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium outdoor courts, here on Friday.

In a closely fought match, Postal prevailed over CIL 25-19, 22-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-13. Veteran Sardar and Rajendran starred for the Postal side.

Jindal posted its eighth win in 10 matches by defeating Sports Hostel 25-19, 25-23, 25-19.

Laxmisha and Syed Abdul did the star turn for the winner.

Ticket sales

Tickets for the match between India ‘A’ and Australia ‘A’ at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore from September 3 to 5 have been priced at Rs. 50 per head.

The tickets will be available at Gate No. 10 on all match days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
