VLB Janakiammal CET is champion

Coimbatore: Host VLB Janakiammal College of Engineering and Technology fashioned a comfortable eight-wicket win over Bannari Amman Institute of Technology (Sathyamangalam) and emerged the champion of the Anna University Zone-7 inter-Collegiate cricket tournament at the VLB grounds, here on Friday.

After bundling out its opponent for a paltry 103, VLB, thanks to Rathish (46) and Senthil Kumar (34 not out), scored the required runs without much ado.

Earlier, Dr. Mahalingam (Pollachi) defeated Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College (Vattamalaipalayam) by 72 runs to finish third.

Final: Bannari Amman IT (Sathy) 103 in 29.2 overs lost to VLB Janakiammal 104 for two in 18.5 overs (Rathish 46, Senthil Kumar 34 n.o.). Third place: Dr. Mahalingam (Pollachi) 176 for eight in 25 overs (Sridhar 69) bt Sri Ramakrishna (Vattamalaipalayam) 104 for nine in 25 overs.

The Pollachi Motor Sports Club, in association with Hi-Rew Motorsports, will organise an autocross event for two wheelers at the VOC Park grounds on August 31 at 10 a.m.

Approved by the Federation of Motorsports Clubs of India and sponsored by Vodafone and Rolon Chains, the one-day event has attracted some of the best riders from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka.

A district-level open table tennis tournament for the Lions Texcity Cup, organised jointly by the Lions Club of Coimbatore Texcity and the Youngster Table Tennis Academy (YTTA), will be held at the YTTA Hall on September 6 and 7.

The 51st Republic Day South Zone boys meet, hosted by the GRG MHSS, will be held at the Government Polytechnic grounds on August 30.

At Udhagamandalam, the Nilgiris District Football Association will hold selection trials for its under-13 and 16 players for the State championship at the HADP Open Air Stadium on September 3 and 4 at 3 p.m.
