Cop’s son opens fire, injures five

NEW DELHI: A teenaged son of a Delhi policeman allegedly opened fire injuring five persons in his neighbourhood at Nand Nagri here on Thursday.

According to the police, Avneesh (19), son of Head Constable Ramvir posted at Shahdara police station, opened fire from a double-barrel licensed gun following an argument with his neighbours around 9-30 p.m. He allegedly fired a few rounds injuring Nitin, Vijay Pal, Ramesh and Sangeeta and Kamal. The injured were taken to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital and were stated to be out of danger.

Ramvir’s family was not on good terms of with their neighbour Narender, a Delhi police constable, and there were constant quarrels. Both families and some neighbours had gathered to resolve the dispute when the incident took place.

Avneesh has been arrested and an attempt to murder case registered against him.
