American former F-1 champion dead

MONTEREY (California): Phil Hill, the only American-born Formula One champion, died of complications from Parkinson’s disease on Thursday. He was 81. He was the Formula Open champion in 1961 with Ferrari and a three-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner. Hill, also a three-time winner of the Sebring 12-hour race, was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1991. — AP
