Vizag storms into final

VIJAYAWADA: Vizag entered the final of the 25th Andhra senior inter-district hockey championship held at Adiseshaiah Reddy Stadium at Gudur (Nellore district) on Sunday, according to information reaching here.

In the first semifinal, Vizag defeated Kurnool 3-0 with K. Suresh, S. Ramesh and P. Ramesh Kumar doing the scoring.

East Godavari drew with Kadapa 1-1 to progress to the semifinal on goal average. It will clash with Nellore which registered a narrow 5-4 win over Chittoor.

Easy for President’s XI

At Vijayawada, KDCA President’s XI defeated KDCA Vice-President’s XI by seven wickets in a friendly match at the IGMC stadium.

The scores: KDCA President’s XI 125 in 20 overs (Prabhu Kiran 31, A. Yella Rao three for 16) lost to KDCA President’s XI 127 for three in 15.4 overs (D. Prasanth 40).

AP badminton team

The following players will represent Andhra Pradesh in the South Zone badminton championship to be held at Puducherry in the last week of September:

Bhima Rao to lead

K. Bhima Rao of Gudivada will captain the Krishna District Cricket Association under-14 team in the ACA Central Zone inter-district tournament to be played at Vijayawada from September 1 to 10.

Sports meet

Vijayawada Urban Physical Education Teachers’ Association is hosting a two-day sports meet, in memory of Tummala Venkata Krishna Rao, at the IGMC Stadium here on Monday and Tuesday. Competitions will be held in kabaddi (boys), volleyball (boys) and throwball (boys and girls).

Baseball trials

Krishna District Baseball Association will conduct selection trials for junior (u-19) boys and girls at the IGMC stadium on September 1. The selected teams will take part in the inter-district tournament to be held at Warangal from September 6 to 9.

Death condoled

The President and members of the Andhra Cricket Association expressed their grief over the demise of B. Nagaraju, an Andhra u-19 all-rounder from Guntur.

Nagaraju, who died in an accident recently, had represented Andhra in the under-15, 17 and 19 age groups.
