Amirthalingam wins title

TIRUCHI: Top seed S. Amirthalingam defeated D. Sekar 25-14, 25-1 to win the senior singles title in the district-level carrom tournament, here on Sunday.

The results (all finals): Singles: Senior: S. Amirthalingam (TRC) bt D. Sekar (CCC) 25-14, 25-1. Non-medallists: A. Ashraf Ali (VCC) bt R. Ravichandran 25-23, 25-4. Doubles: D. Sekar & C. Khanraj (CCC) bt S. Umashankar & S. Gavaskar (VCC) 25-17, 12-25, 25-22.

Swimming programme

The Tiruchi-unit of Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu will conduct a Learn to Swim programme at the Anna Stadium Swimming Pool from September 2 to 14.

The classes will be held between 6.30 to 7.30 a.m. for men and 7.45 to 8.45 a.m. for women. Adults and children above eight can also attend the classes. The training fee for the programme is Rs. 500.

Those interested in swimming regularly can become a member of the pool by paying the prescribed fee of Rs. 3,000 for a year, Rs. 1,750 for six months, Rs. 1,250 for three months and Rs. 500 a month.

The Tiruchi DFA third division ‘A’ Zone football league fixture between RK FC and Athavan FC ended in a 2-2 draw on Monday. Ravi opened the scoring for RK, but Gowtham equalised. Karthik struck to put Athavan in the lead. Karthik of RK levelled the scores.

Aparajith shines

B. Aparajith’s 78 (160b, 7x4) enabled City-I make 277 for eight at close against Districts-II on the first day of the two-day TNCA u-16 round-robin tournament final on Monday.

Aparajith and R. Ananth (61) added 149 for the fourth wicket in 50.2 overs.
